Ron Paul: Voice of Conscience, Voice of the Constitution

The vast majority of politicians lack principles, instead slavishly following public opinion and the status quo. Few offer little more than sound bites and one dimensional narratives, especially regarding issues of terrorism and security. Dr. Ron Paul is the only real exception that I know of. Dr. Paul refused to go along with the celebration of the assassination of Anwar Al Awlaki and, instead offering a thoughtful critique. While he affirmed that Anwar Al Awlaki was a terrible human being, he questioned the right of the Obama Administration to execute an American Citizen without due process. Allowing the federal government to circumvent the rule of the law and engage in extrajudicial killings, even against despicable individuals, will inevitably weaken the constitutional protections that American Citizens currently enjoy. Even those who disagree with Dr. Paul's critique should respect the courage and character he shows in refusing to "join the choir", instead presenting essential questions and fostering intelligent debate..
